WINNIPEG — If you are looking for something to do this weekend, consider helping out in the flood zone.

The rural municipality of St. Francois Xavier has put out a plea for volunteers to help fill sandbags.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Water along the Assiniboine River is quickly rising and putting homes at risk.

The RM has a sandbagging machine that is going to the different affected properties.

Officials ask people who want to help to call 204-864-2871 to find out where they should go.

St. Francois Xavier is west of Winnipeg, just past Headingley.
