EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Crash involving a commuter bus blocks traffic in Massey Tunnel

WATCH ABOVE: The Massey Tunnel was closed for several hours Friday night after a crash involving a commuter bus.

UPDATE: RCMP say alcohol and cell phone use were not factors in the crash. They are currently looking into the mechanics of the car to see if that led to the crash.

Traffic in the George Massey Tunnel in Delta has reopened after a crash Friday afternoon involving a commuter bus.

The No. 620 bus (Tsawwassen Ferry / Bridgeport Station) was carrying approximately 35 passengers when it collided with an SUV, driven by a single driver, just before 5 p.m.

Cpr. Robert McDonald wtih “E” Division Traffic Services says it appears the SUV was in the overflow lane moving south when it went into the opposite lane and crashed head on with the bus.

Watch: Viewer submitted video of the crash site inside the Massey Tunnel

The driver of the SUV was to taken to a local hospital with severe, but not life-threatening injuries.

Some passengers on the bus were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

McDonald says they are investigating what led to the crash, and a mechanical inspection will be ordered on the vehicle.

He says it is still too early to determine if any charges will be laid.

All buses traveling northbound were rerouted to the Alex Fraser Bridge.
