WATCH: Silver Star spending thousands to attract more mountain bikers
NEAR VERNON – Skiers and snowboarders fill the slopes in the winter, but now a local mountain resort is making a big investment it hopes will attract more visitors in the summer months.
Silver Star is spending a quarter of a million dollars on expanding its bike park.
The trail crew is hard at work this summer creating kilometers of new cross country terrain.
“Back in the nineties we did quite a bit of cross country, then we got out if it. For a number of years we did no cross country. We kind of lost all of our cross country trails. We are investing a quarter million dollars into that part of the product,” says Cameron Sorensen, bike park manager at Silver Star.
The resort expects to be opening new cross country terrain throughout the summer.
Sorensen says he’s proud of the bike park.
“We’ve worked really hard at this for a number of years and it didn’t happen overnight. It has taken a few years to get to where we are and it seems to be growing and growing.”
Crews will keep working until the snow flies they’ll be looking to have as many new trails as possible open for riders.
