WATCH: Scary moment for family caught in middle of shootout

TORONTO – A California family found themselves dangerously close to a shootout between police and a murder suspect.

Chris Miller was driving with his pregnant wife and their 6-year-old son in the car Wednesday night when the firefight broke out. Miller captured the incident on his mobile phone.

“That’s gunfire,” he is heard saying in the video.

According to NBC Los Angeles, officers spotted the suspect driving a pickup truck and began to follow him. The suspect stopped his vehicle and immediately opened fire.

“Oh my god, oh my god, daddy!,” Miller’s son is heard saying in the video.

“Don’t move, just don’t move, don’t move,” Miller said.

Miller’s wife Crystal told NBC the area around the standoff was not blocked off.

“I wanted to hide, I wanted to run away,” she said. “Even as the shooting was going on, there were cars going by.”

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

A female officer reportedly suffered minor injuries as a result of the shootout.
