MATHESON, Ont. – Provincial police say a Quebec man is dead following an accident at a mine in northeastern Ontario.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday on the surface at the Holt Mining Project, about 60 kilometres east of Matheson on Highway 101, near the Quebec border.
Const. Marc Depatie says Michel Fournier Bolduc, 26, of Rouyn, Que., died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, but had no details about how the incident happened.
Depatie says Bolduc was working as a sub-contractor at the site operated by St. Andrews Goldfields Ltd.
The coroner’s office has been notified and police say a post-mortem examination will be scheduled.
The scene is being held under the control of provincial police, who are working with Ministry of Labour to investigate the incident.
Depatie said the Labour Ministry is reviewing safety procedures at the scene while police are conducting interviews “to determine the root cause of this tragedy.”
