Oilers make deal with Blue Jackets for defenceman

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Nikita Nikitin from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a fifth-round pick in this year’s NHL Draft.

The Oilers have signed the 28-year-old to a two-year contract.

Nikitin had 15 points and 20 penalty minutes in 66 games last season with the Blue Jackets.

During five seasons in the NHL the Russian born defenceman has 65 points and 65 penalty minutes in 206 NHL games.

Nikitin represented Russia at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the 5th round, 136th overall in the 2004 NHL Draft.
