Aerial footage: Multi-vehicle collision shuts down highway 401
TORONTO – One man is dead, another person is in critical condition and two more suffered minor injuries during a crash on Highway 401 Tuesday morning.
The multi-vehicle collision near Whitby closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes at approximately 11 a.m. near Thickson Road and Stephenson Road.
One person was taken to hospital via Ornge Air Ambulance.
Police say a transport truck, a motor coach and two cars were involved in the accident.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for approximately an hour after the crash but reopened shortly after noon Tuesday.
The westbound lanes of the highway in the area reopened shortly after 4 p.m. but the off-ramp to Thickson Road is expected to be closed for several hours as police investigate what led to the fatal collision.
