Woman in hospital after accidental shooting in Salmon Arm

File ph. Global News

SALMON ARM — A 20-year-old Salmon Arm woman is recovering in hospital after being shot in the back.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Saturday on Mt. Ida.

“Police are currently investigating the discharge of the firearm to determine the circumstances of the incident,” according to Salmon Arm RCMP, but officials believe the shooting was accidental.

RCMP had a difficult time getting to the victim, as the mountainous terrain could only be accessed by 4 x 4 or ATV.

Once RCMP transported the victim, she was taken to Kelowna General Hospital.

The woman is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Police say the individuals involved knew each other.
