DESCHAMBAULT LAKE, Sask. – A Mountie saved a woman from a house fire Tuesday in the northern Saskatchewan community of Deschambault Lake.

The officer was conducting a traffic stop when he noticed smoke coming from a nearby house and several people waving their arms trying to get his attention.

They told him there may be a person inside the house.

The back of the house was fully engulfed when the officer entered, finding a woman sleeping on a couch. He woke her up and got her safely outside.

When told there may be children in the house, he attempted to enter the house but the heat was too intense. Fortunately, the children were located safely a short time later.

The house was completely destroyed and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
