UPDATE: Evergreen Line gantry shifts, shuts down North Road

WATCH: Part of the huge gantry crane being used in Evergreen line construction collapsed. Catherine Urquhart reports.

The ministry of transportation says it was an equipment failure on the truss used in the Evergreen Line construction that shut down North Road at Foster Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

No one was injured during the incident and there was no damage to the Evergreen Line guideway or columns.

The incident caused major traffic delays, but North Road has been re-opened Tuesday night.

Ministry of transportation says the incident will not affect the construction schedule. Construction on the Evergreen Line elevated guideway on North Road will resume once an investigation is complete.

Tuesday’s incident took place  just 700 meters away from where a 300-tonne beam dislodged in March, shutting down Como Lake for days.
