WATCH: Off-duty cop pulls man from gas station inferno

TORONTO – A New York State Trooper is being hailed as a hero after dragging an unconscious man from a car after it slammed into a gas pump and burst into flames.

John Vescio was pumping gas last week when a 69-year-old man lost control of his car and crashed into the gas station.

“I went to look up and to see what was going on and the next thing I knew the pump was coming down on top of me,” Vescio said.

In the video, the trooper can be seen running away as the gas pump ignited along with the car.

Vescio can be seen returning to the burning car and dragging the unconscious driver to safety.

“I got the door open but I could see the actual compartment was compressed,” Vescio told NBC New York. “His legs were tucked under the seat and his seatbelt was on, he was pretty much helpless.”
