WINNIPEG – A 28-year-old Winnipeg man, who was free while awaiting trial on other charges, is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at his home.
Police say the 14-year-old girl was walking in the area of Talbot Avenue and Watt Street on June 3 and was approached by a man she didn’t know. The girl went with him to his home on Harbison Avenue, where officers say “the suspect committed two serious sexual assaults upon the victim.”
The girl fled the house and told a parent. Police made an arrest the next day.
Nicholas Raymond Serbyniuk is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and other offences.
Court documents show Serbyniuk was awaiting trial on charges dating back to 2013, including drug possession, weapons offences and credit card fraud. He was due in court June 26 to face those charges and others.
Serbyniuk remains in custody, police said.
