Vernon, BC – It was bad enough that she lost her beloved pet, now a North Okanagan woman says she has been contacted by a scam artist trying to make a buck off of the loss of her dog. Rhonda Mayne says her dog Gemma went missing in December. As part of her search for the missing hound she posted online and even offered a 250 dollar reward. On two different days this month someone called saying he had Gemma. Mayne says the caller claimed he was in Vernon but wanted money sent in an email transfer before she could even see the dog. She didn’t transfer the funds instead reporting the incidents to RCMP. Now the pet lover is warning others hoping to prevent anyone else from falling victim.
