LETHBRIDGE – Police have charged a 39-year-old man after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young boy in a restaurant play area Sunday.

Police were called to the McDonald’s in the 200 block of Third Avenue South to a report that a six-year-old boy had been assaulted.

Police say the child was approached by a man and touched inappropriately.

Lethbridge resident Harley Rhett Gabel has since been charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.

Gabel has been released from custody, but is prohibited from being within 100 metres of any public park, public swimming area, day care, school or other area where children are known to visit.

Gabel is scheduled to appear in court on June 11.
