59-year-old grizzly bear hunter found dead identified as Washington state man

UPDATE: RCMP have identified the hunter as 59-year-old Jeffrey Cooper of Toutle, Washington.

RCMP and the American authorities are looking into a shooting incident that left a man dead in the Tahtsa Reach Forest area, 100 kilometres south of Houston.

On May 26, the Houston Mounties were called to the scene and found a 59-year-old man dead from a gunshot wound. The man has been identified as an American citizen and according to police, was in the area grizzly bear hunting with guides.

All of the individuals involved in the incident have spoken to police.

The circumstances of the man’s death is being investigated by RCMP, North District Major Crime Unit, the North District Forensic Identification Unit and the BC Conservation Service.
