WATCH: Summerland teen’s science fair project awarded for shedding light on crime

SUMMERLAND, B.C. – A well lit street isn’t necessarily safer.

That is the finding of a well researched science fair project that won a Summerland teen a gold medal at a national competition.

Grant Mansiere says the data collected from the Penticton and Summerland RCMP showing high crime areas are well lit has convinced him to walk on the dark side of the street.

Mansiere won a gold medal in the Junior Excellence category, The Actuarial Foundation of Canada Junior Award and the Junior Award for Excellence in Astronomy at the Youth Science Canada Science Fair May 10th to 17th in Windsor, Ontario.

Doris Maria Bregolisse reports.
