Power outage at Vancouver International Airport causing delays

Whole sections of Vancouver International Airport were without power for over 30 minutes this morning.

While the power has since been restored, YVR says some flights will be delayed as a result.

Many early-morning, would-be flyers started tweeting pictures of the darkness in both the domestic and international terminals around 6:45.

BC Hydro said just before 7 a.m. a lightning strike at the corner of Great Canadian Way and Van Horne damaged a neutral conductor on the transmission line that serves YVR causing an outage. BC Hydro’s system operators identified the problem and restored power to the airport within five minutes.
