ORILLIA – Provincial police say two people died on OPP-patrolled roads over the Victoria Day long weekend, according to preliminary reports.
One man died in eastern Ontario when the farm tractor he was driving failed to make a turn on a township road, while another man died after a single-vehicle collision in northeastern Ontario.
Police say officers were busy patrolling over the long weekend, as they expected high volumes of traffic on roads and people taking advantage of outdoor activities.
But OPP say they were pleased to see most motorists, off-roaders and boaters keeping safety in mind throughout the weekend.
The provincial force says it also focused on education and enforcement of laws related to impaired driving, seat belt use, distracted and aggressive driving during Canada Road Safety Week from May 13-19.
