Geography

The riding borders Don Valley East on its west side until Highway 401 and stretches west to Yonge Street north of Broadway.

Kathleen Wynne defeated former PC cabinet minister David Turnbull to take this riding in 2003, and then defeated PC leader John Tory in 2007. She defeated the PC candidate by over 11,000 votes last election, her largest victory yet. Prior to her first victory, the area had been a PC stronghold: the party won 9 of 10 elections in the defunct riding of York Mills from 1963 to 1999, and six of nine in the riding of York East.
