In 2011, Jane McKenna became the most recent PC candidate to win this seat by a small margin over the Liberals, defeating Karmel Sakran by just over 2,000 votes. It was the third straight general election a different PC candidate had defeated a Liberal candidate by less than 5%. Historically, the party has always done well here: George Albert Kerr was elected in Burlington South from 1975 to 1985, and Cam Jackson from 1985 to 2007.

By the numbers

The reported median income in 2011 was $32,568 – 12th highest in the province. The average household size is 2.5 – tied for the smallest number in the 905. According to the most recent census, it only grew by 1.1 per cent from 2006 to 2011, making it the slowest growing of all the 905 ridings.
