Geography

A sprawling seat in northeast Peel, Bramalea-Gore-Malton comprises a number of suburb communities in Brampton and Mississauga, along with Pearson Airport, the Claireville Conservation Area and a number of industrial parks.

History

Jagmeet Singh won this seat for the NDP by over 2,000 votes last election, becoming the first person from his party to win a seat in Brampton since 1987. The riding was previously held Liberal MPP Kuldip Kular, who was first elected in 2003 in the defunct district of Bramalea—Gore—Malton—Springdale.

By the numbers

The most recent census reported a 25.8% population growth between 2006 and 2011, the fourth-largest in the province. Young growing families galore – the 34.4 median age is third-youngest in Ontario, while the average household size of 3.5 is tied for second-highest. You’re also likely to hear Punjabi, as 21.13% people listed it as their mother tongue in the 2011 census, highest in the province.
