WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s 2012 rent increase guideline has been set at one percent.
It takes effect on Jan. 1.
The guideline takes into account cost increases such as utilities, property taxes and other expenses.

It applies to most rental properties like apartments, single rooms, houses and duplexes, but not personal-care homes, or non-profit housing.
Landlords can apply for an increase above the guideline if they can show it won’t cover increased costs.
