Calgary café shutting doors after 7 decades of serving Kensington

CALGARY- News that a longtime Calgary hangout is set to close its doors is proving tough for some people to swallow.

The Lido Café in Kensington has been serving Calgarians for more than seven decades, but is now shutting down to make way for a condo project.

Those who have visited the coffee house regularly over the years say it will leave a big void in the area.

“It’s irreplaceable. It really is irreplaceable as far as a community hub,” says Jim Matheson. “I’m going to miss the camaraderie. I’ve gotten to know so many people here, I don’t know where we’re all going to go.”

The Lido will close its doors for good, effective next Sunday.
