Crime scene in Vancouver. John Daly, Global News

A trust fund has been set up for a 19-month-old girl who was injured in an alleged stabbing attack in Vancouver Monday morning.

The girl’s 63-year-old grandmother was killed in the attack believed to have been carried out by her 33-year-old son, the young girl’s uncle.

Her parents dropped her off at her grandmother’s apartment before work on the day of the attack.

The child is currently in hospital, and is expected to survive. Her injuries are not life-threatening, but potentially life-altering.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Thirty-three-year-old Ka Chi David Siu has been charged with second degree murder and attempted murder.

NDP leader Adrian Dix, who is an MLA for the area, has started a trust fund for the injured girl.

“All one can feel when one hears the details of this case is sorrow, some anger of course, but sorrow,” says Dix. “We have a little girl who is going to be dealing with this for the rest of her life, and it would be nice to put together something that is going to assist her, because she is going to have challenges that most little girls won’t expect to see.”

Dix has donated $1,000 of his own money to the fund.
