Another beautiful day ahead for most of B.C.: Sunny weather to end soon

Another beautiful day ahead for B.C.!. Global SkyTracker

Sunday will be another beautiful sunny day for much of the province, but sadly, these temperatures won’t last for too much longer.

On Saturday, most areas hit above normal temperatures for this time of year, with the hot spot being Squamish at 19.7 degrees.

Many areas hit about five degrees above normal, and while no records were broken, it appears most residents were eager to get outside and enjoy the Vitamin D.

Global BC weather specialist Sonia Beeksma says this warm weather is due to a ridge of high pressure off the coast and in northern B.C., and this ridge will mean Sunday will be even warmer than Saturday.

On Sunday inland areas of the Lower Mainland, such as Abbotsford and Chilliwack, will get up to about 18 or 19 degrees.

Port Alberni on Vancouver Island will get up to about 14 or 15 degrees.

In Northern B.C. temperatures will reach between six and 16 degrees. Prince Rupert will get up to 12 and Terrace and Smithers will get up to 16.

Southern B.C. will see straight sunshine with areas such as Osoyoos, Merritt, Kamloops and Castlegar getting up to about 15 to 18 degrees.

Squamish might get up to about 20 degrees again today, while Victoria will hit about 17 and Port Hardy about 13.

Vancouver will get up to about 14 degrees.

However, this warm sunny weather will not last too much longer. Beeksma says Monday will be a transition day for most of the province. As the ridge of high pressure shifts east, the Interior and the Columbia and Kootenay region will see another boost of warm weather, but the rest of the province will see a sunny start, and then mostly clouds and even some rain.

Rain will hit the North Coast first and then by Wednesday most of the province will be under rain clouds.

With this unseasonably warm weather however, comes a high avalanche risk. Officials are warning people to stay out of the backcountry due to unstable terrain.
