EDMONTON – RCMP are still trying to figure out what caused a vehicle to veer off the road in Spruce Grove, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
It happened around 10 a.m. Thursday. A woman in her late 20s was driving west on Grove Drive, just west of Jennifer Heil Way, when her vehicle suddenly plowed into two fences and the back of a home before coming to rest along a fence.
“It’s really unusual. Often times we’ll see a collision but once someone hits a fence, it’s over. So to see it go through three fences, shear off fence posts and essentially take off the rear end of a house like this is highly unusual,” said Cpl. Colette Zazulak with the RCMP.
Luckily, nobody was in any of the backyards or inside the home that was hit.
“In speaking with the homeowners next door, their kids were home last week for spring break playing in the backyard all week,” said Zazulak. “So we’re very lucky that…nobody was present.”
The driver is being treated in an Edmonton-area hospital for what were said to be serious injuries. Her condition is now said to be stable.
RCMP have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the incident.
“We certainly are exploring the possibility of a medical episode,” added Zazulak, “but we haven’t confirmed anything.”
Investigators are still waiting to speak with the driver.
