There’s not much left of a double attached garage in the northwest community of Citadel but soot and charred debris this morning.
Fire crews were called to the 100 block of Citadel Green NW around 7 p.m. Saturday. Extra support was brought in to help protect the surrounding homes, and because the blaze was creating so much smoke.
“Me and my wife heard a big explosion,” says neighbor Tony Mungo. “A bunch of us ran over to make sure everyone was out of the house.”
Mungo says another neighbor went door to door to ensure nearby homes were evacuated.
Luckily, everyone was able to get out of the home safely.
The garage was fully engulfed when crews arrived, but they managed to bring the blaze under control and stop it from spreading.
“The firefighters got here so fast,” says Mungo. “They saved the one house cause that’s when it started coming out of the eaves.”
Crews stayed on scene for several hours, monitoring for hot spots and ensuring the fire didn’t flare up again.
It’s not clear how the blaze started, or whether it’s considered suspicious. The investigation will continue Sunday.
