CALGARY – Police have laid charges against a 29-year-old Chestermere man after seizing fake Oxycodone which they allege he intended to sell.
Officers searched both a home and a vehicle in the town of Chestermere on February 18th as part of an investigation into an alleged drug ring.
They found 9,600 pills worth about $768,000 in a hidden compartment in one the vehicle — as well as over $3,000 in cash.
Officers sent samples of the pills to Health Canada, and discovered they contained caffeine and the potentially deadly painkiller fentanyl.
The presence of fentanyl in these pills increases the risk of overdose, and officials say they’re seeing an increase throughout Canada in the number of counterfeit oxycodone pills which contain the drug.
Some are green and stamped with “CDN” on one side and the number 80 on the other.
Police are using the bust as an opportunity to highlight the dangers of street drugs, because you can never know what they really contain or if they’re cut with anything.
Brian Thomas Harrington is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
