WATCH: Jimmy Kimmel is surprised about Rob Ford’s reaction to his appearance on Monday night
TORONTO – American comedian Jimmy Kimmel said he was perplexed why Rob Ford felt upset about his appearance on ABC’s late night program Monday night.
“It seemed like we were having fun,” said Kimmel as he opened his monologue Tuesday night.
“But then after the show, apparently he was upset. Why? I’m not exactly sure. I asked him about drinking and smoking crack. What were we supposed to talk about? His other hobbies?”
Ford spent nearly 20 minutes as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he was questioned about his controversial behaviour over the past year.
The host peppered the mayor with questions about homophobia, illegal drug use, his contentious relationship with the city’s police chief and a possible substance abuse problem.

Doug Ford, the mayor’s brother, told reporters Wednesday that Rob was disappointed he didn’t get to promote Toronto as much as he would have liked on the show.
But there was some confusion, which Doug was unable to clarify Wednesday, about whether Kimmel apologized to the mayor – Doug had said he did, Kimmel said he didn’t.
Still, the mayor believed he did a good job despite the pressure of being on U.S. network television.
“I knew I was going into a lion’s den, and you know, I held my own,” he told reporters when arriving at city hall shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday. “I was out to promote the city of Toronto, and I did a good job, if you ask me.”

On Tuesday’s show, Kimmel said he had a “peace offering” for Ford. He showed a video of a tour he did of Toronto in 2011 with sidekick Guillermo.
“The next time Guillermo and I visit Toronto, we’re staying with you Mayor Ford. We’re staying at the Ford residence,” he said.
