OTTAWA – Auditor General Sheila Fraser has delivered a farewell address in typical blunt-spoke fashion – warning government to do better on climate change and living conditions for Canada’s First Nations.
Fraser’s 10-year appointment as auditor general ends next Monday.
In a luncheon speech to hundreds of Ottawa power brokers and bureaucrats, she said Canada must do better at tracking long-term financial challenges.
She said foremost among those are an aging population and the impact of climate change.
Fraser also spoke at length about the plight of First Nations peoples, saying the lack of progress has been "truly shocking."
Fraser is most famous for blowing the lid off the sponsorship scandal under the Chretien Liberals, famously stating that civil servants "broke every rule in the book."
