Average weekly earnings improve in Saskatchewan

SASKATOON – At the end of 2013, Saskatchewan workers earned 3.6 per cent more compared to the previous year, according to Statistics Canada.

Compared with December 2012, average weekly earnings in Saskatchewan rose $33.57 to $965.74 in December 2013.

This increase was seen across the largest work sectors, including construction, manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade.

In 2013, year-over-year growth of non-farm payroll employees was led by Alberta, Newfoundland and then Saskatchewan.

All provinces’ employees earned more with a national increase of 2.9 per cent.

Saskatchewan posted the highest increase in the country for 2012.

On a month-to-month basis, Saskatchewan wages increased eight months out of the year.

“It means the hard working people of this province are being rewarded for their efforts, and we are fairly confident that trend will continue this year,” said Bill Boyd, Saskatchewan’s minister of economy.

There were two per cent more Saskatchewan employees in December 2013 than in the same month the previous year.
