Officers say the victim is a 59-year-old man from Nanaimo, and it appears he had turned the weapon on himself.

RCMP say the two men did know each other, but are not saying how they are connected.

The case appears to be a domestic dispute, and does not involve drugs or gangs. “It appears right now that they are related,” said Harnett. “Like I said, we’re still try to determine exactly what their relationship is by speaking to family members and what-not.”

However, they are not related by blood.
