Surrey fire sends four residents to hospital

Several people were taken to hospital last night after a fire broke out at a Surrey townhouse complex.

Crews were first called at approximately 11:30 p.m. to 159th Street and 87th Avenue in the Fleetwood area. When they arrived on scene heavy flames were already shooting from many parts of the complex.

Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before they were able to get it under control. All of the residents from the six suites managed to get out but four people were sent to hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Officials say three of the units have been gutted and the remaining apartments have smoke and water damage.
