Black ice has made for treacherous road conditions across Metro Vancouver causing several crashes this morning.
Although trucks were out salting, emergency crews were kept busy dealing with road accidents from the slippery conditions.
Abbotsford Police tweeted that they have attended to 21 crashes since 4 a.m. , and that number has since gone up.
Morning News reporter Grace Ke witnessed two separate accidents happen within a matter of minutes of each other on Fraser Highway, just east of 176th Street in Surrey. After those collisions, RCMP stationed themselves at the top of the hill on Fraser Highway just to remind drivers to slow down.
Surrey reported 58 crashes on Tuesday with half of those crashes happening between 7a.m. and 9 a.m.

One area that is especially bad is the East-West Connector in Annacis Island where crews closed off a section of Highway 91 eastbound.
Meteorologist Mark Madryga says we should also watch out for fog.
“Considerable moisture in the air from yesterday’s rain combined with overnight clearing in the South Coast, has led to falling temperatures and the formation of black ice on many roads and bridges. In addition, due to light wind and the same clearing scenario, fog banks have formed in a few areas, especially over Burrard Inlet and downtown.”
Madryga says we’ll start to see some changes Tuesday afternoon and rain should develop as temperatures warm up.
“The weather will rapidly change later today, as a potent Pacific storm whips onto the South Coast. Rain will develop in Metro Vancouver by early evening with 30 to 50 millimetres forecast by early Wednesday morning. Gusty winds are likely late this evening and overnight as well.”
In the meantime, officials are warning drivers to slow down.
