Political reaction to seniors’ home fire in L’Isle Verte

MONTREAL – From Her Majesty The Queen to Quebec Premier Pauline Marois, political reaction to the news of the tragic fire in L’Isle Verte was swift and steadfast.

In Davos Switzerland, where Quebec Premier Pauline Marois sent her sympathies to the families, while Prime Minister Harper sent his condolences from Jordan, and other party leaders and ministers from across Canada took to social media to share their thoughts and prayers.

David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada and representative of Her Majesty the Queen, shared a message from Her Majesty addressed to those affected by the fire on Twitter.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper sent a message via Twitter from the Middle East, writing that his thoughts and prayers were with the families touched by the tragic fire.

Federal Liberal Party leader, Justin Trudeau tweeted that his thoughts were with the families.

Federal NDP leader and Montrealer, Thomas Mulcair shared his thoughts via Twitter.

From Switzerland, Quebec’s premier Pauline Marois told the media that her thoughts were with the families in L’Isle Verte.

Parti Quebecois’ minister of transport, Sylvain Gaudreault, tweeted his condolences and confirmed offers of help to those affected while en route to the town.

The head of Quebec’s Liberal Party, Philippe Couillard, said that his thoughts were with the families in L’Isle Verte in a message via Twitter.

The leader of Quebec’s opposition party, the Coalition Avenir Quebec, Francois Legault, tweeted a message of support to locals in L’Isle Verte: “We are with you. Courage!”

Francoise David, a spokesperson for Quebec Solidaire, noted that it was too early to make judgements and said that her thoughts were with the community, especially the victims and their families.

Denis Coderre, the mayor of Montreal said that the hearts of all Montrealers were with the L’Isle Verte community and Montreal would be there to support those affected.

Quebec’s Red Cross was at the scene very early on Thursday morning to offer support to those affected by the fire.
