WINNIPEG – Neighbours of a Fort Richmond family were visibly shaken Thursday night, as a nine-year-old boy continued to fight for his life in a Winnipeg hospital.
The boy was playing in the snow in his front yard around 8 p.m. Wednesday when a snowbank collapsed on top of him, neighbours said.
Ten people ran out of their homes to help dig the boy out from under the heavy snow.
He was unconscious when paramedics took him to hospital, and people who know the family said he was still on a ventilator Thursday.
The boy is an only child and the family is devastated, neighbours said.
