WINNIPEG – Manitobans got a respite from extreme cold on the weekend as the temperature rose above freezing in Winnipeg for the first time since Nov. 25.

After weeks when the daily high often didn’t reach above -20 C, with numerous wind chill warnings and values that at times dropped below -50, the temperature reached 1 C on Sunday.

Manitobans took to the rivers to skate, toboggan hills to slide and checked out exhibits at the zoo during the warm spell.

The province’s hot spot was Morden, where the temperature hit 4.5 C. Portage la Prairie and Melita reached highs of 4.1 C, while Carberry was a balmy 3.9 C.
