Man injured trying to stop theft of truck

CALGARY – One man is recovering in hospital after being injured while trying to stop a thief from stealing his truck from his Thorncliff home.

Police say the man noticed his Ford F350 being stolen around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, and chased after the offender in a second vehicle.

At some point, he confronted the suspect in an alley off Thornlee Crescent N.W., leaving his vehicle.

However, the suspect took off in the F350, hitting the man and his vehicle as he drove by, and dragging him about 100 meters.

He was taken to hospital with bruising to his legs.

“Sometimes we have pride in the things that we own, and we want to protect [them],” says Duty Inspector Nancy Farmer. “On behalf of the police service, what I’d like to say is call us, and let us do that job. We have resources, we’re out there 24/7. That’s why we’re there… so let us do the work so we don’t have injuries.”

Police are investigating if this incident is related to another theft, after discovering a different Ford F350 nearby, which was reported missing in December.

They are still looking for the suspect.
