REGINA — Saturday’s warm temperatures made for an escape from some of the previous week’s bitterly cold days, and Reginans took to the hills and rinks to enjoy the ‘warm snap’ while it lasts.

“It’s really nice being able to actually go outside,” said grade 5 student Kaden Molnar on his red ‘crazy carpet’ at the top of Mount Pleasant Sports Park.

He was one of dozens taking to one of the city’s biggest hills this afternoon.

“Sometimes I fall off, and that’s fun,” said Kaden before sliding down the hill and falling off his ride.

The ice rink in Victoria Park was another place to enjoy the outdoors, with more and more skaters popping up as the afternoon went on.

“Last year we were challenged a bit with the snow. We had a lot of snow last year, and this year we’re dealing with the cold,” said Leasa Gibbons, manager of marketing and communications for the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District.

The minus 50 degree wind chills closed the ice rink several times this season.

“Everyone gets a little cabin fever and they want to get out of the house,” said Gibbons.

The temperatures were also good news for retailers.

“When the weather warms up, people get charged up and they’re ready to go – especially after a long haul of cold”  said Tim Kramer, assistant manager for Sunshine & Ski.
