The family of a young Vancouver Island man is giving a gift of life to six strangers because of how their son felt about organ donations.
On January 2, 16-year-old Ciaran Martin was struck by a vehicle while he was longboarding.
He was not wearing a helmet and suffered massive brain trauma.
Ciaran had always felt strongly about organ donation and so his family honoured his wishes and no fewer than five of his organs have been given to six different recipients and his eyes are in the transplant bank, waiting for other patients.

A fund has been set up to help the Martin family pay funeral expenses and set up a scholarship in Ciaran’s name.
Donations can be made at the RBC Branch in Campbell River via Dawn McQuinn.
