Regina taxes go up

Municipal taxes are going up, but the hike is less than projected.

Regina city council has approved a 4% tax increase, down from the 4.13% increase that was proposed.

The increase will support the 2011 budget. Average homeowners will pay an additional $52 a year.

Other issues that were discussed include the curb side recycling program. The city passed a motion to take 4.5 million dollars out of the landfill reserve fund, and put it toward a new curb side recycling program.

A large proportion of budget funds will fund Police services, street and bridge repairs, road construction, waste management and city fleets.
