7 people arrested, AK-47 seized in drug bust: police

TORONTO – Seven people are facing a total of almost 100 charges after police seized a loaded AK-47 assault rifle, among other items, during a drug raid in Mississauga.

Officers with the Toronto police drug squad and Peel Regional Police tactical squad executed a warrant Saturday (in the in the Dundas Street West and Hurontario Street area.)

Police say a loaded 7.62-mm AK-47 was seized, along with five boxes of ammunition for the rifle and two empty magazines for a 9-mm Glock handgun.

Other items police say were found in the raid included a bulletproof vest, Canadian currency, powder cocaine and marijuana.

Four men and three women, ranging in age from 25 to 53, were arrested.

They face 98 firearms and drug-related charges, including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm and cocaine and marijuana possession.

Charged are Matthew Ward-Jackson, 26, Joseph North, 53, Carlos De Sousa, 30, and Roberta Lam, 32, all of Mississauga, and Niccolaas Markis, 25, of Bolton, Stephanie Cima, 25, of Brampton, and Michelle Camilleri, 28, of Caledonia.
