Taxi crashes into Victoria store after running red light

One person has been injured after a taxi ran a red light, hit two vehicles and crashed into a storefront in Victoria Friday morning, police confirm.

Victoria police said a taxi driver ran a red light at the intersection of Oak Bay Avenue and Foul Bay Road just after 9 a.m.

The taxi hit two other vehicles before driving over a sidewalk and crashing into the doors of Dig This, located at 1990 Oak Bay Avenue.

One of the occupants of the other two vehicles was sent to hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Police said there was heavy damage to the two vehicles that were struck, as well as the store front.

The store was closed at the time of the crash and no one was inside.

Police said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, but the taxi driver will likely get a ticket for running the red light.

The intersection re-opened to traffic at around 10:20 a.m.
