Popular pasta restaurant dishes out Christmas dinner to people in need

A popular Vancouver pasta restaurant dished out Christmas spirit to people in need today.

Every Christmas Eve for the past 24 years, Anton’s pasta restaurant shuts down its cash registers and opens their doors to the less fortunate.

This morning Anton’s, known for its epic meal portions, hosted 700 people from the Downtown Eastside.

Then at noon, they served up dinner to 650 parents and children from Burnaby.

Staff at Anton’s say they don’t do it alone, as you can imagine, the makings of this success is a real team effort.

“We have dozens, if not maybe 100 or so volunteers,” says Tony Obuck from Anton’s Pasta Bar. “School children, parents, teachers, regulars, people from the nieghbourhood, celebrities, politicians, all come in and lend their hand and hand out pasta, Christmas gifts, work the door, seat people, make the food, wash dishes and Santa Claus is here this year and everyone gets a little gift hand-wrapped.”
