One person taken to hospital in Edmonton fire

Edmonton – Three people had to be rescued from a balcony and one person was taken to hospital as a result of an apartment fire in west Edmonton Monday night.

The blaze was contained to a second story suite, after starting on a bedroom mattress.

The person who was taken to hospital was suffering from smoke inhalation.

All 17 people who live in the building were not allowed to return to their homes following the fire.

Fire officials say the residents are not expected to be out of their homes for long.

Red Cross provided a place to stay for some residents, while others were staying with friends or family.

The damage estimate is around $100,000.

The apartment building is located at Groat Road and 111 Avenue.
