What’s closed, what’s open over holidays

WINNIPEG – Wondering what happens to your garbage day over the holidays?

Maybe you need to do a little last-minute shopping – or you’re looking for Boxing Day sales.

Here’s a rundown on holiday hours for the City of Winnipeg, at malls and at some city attractions over the 2013 Christmas break.

City of Winnipeg

All civic offices close at noon on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and remain closed on Christmas Day (Dec. 25), Boxing Day (Dec. 26) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1).

Recycling/garbage collection

Regular collection on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31

No recycling and garbage collection on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 – all collection days for Wednesday to Friday are pushed back one day.

Brady Road Landfill:

Dec. 25 – closed

Dec. 28 – open 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m. (extended hours)

Jan. 1 – closed

Jan. 4 — open 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m. (extended hours)

Christmas tree recycling:

Let’s Chip In depots open Dec. 27-Jan. 20. Check the website (http://winnipeg.ca/waterandwaste/recycle/chip.stm) or call 311 for locations and hours.

Winnipeg Transit

Sunday schedule on Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1

Free ride New Year’s Eve from 8 p.m.-1:45 a.m.

Winnipeg Public Library

Dec. 24 — Charleswood, Henderson, Louis Riel, Millennium, Pembina Trail, River Heights, St. Boniface, St. James-Assiniboie, St. Vital, Sir William Stephenson, Transcona, West Kildonan and Westwood Libraries open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All other libraries closed.

Dec. 25-26 – All libraries closed

Dec. 27-30 – Regular hours

Dec. 31 – All libraries close at 5 p.m.

Jan 1 – All libraries closed

Leisure Centres

Dec. 24 – All leisure centres close at noon
