TORONTO – Some customers in the GTA won’t have power until after Christmas, according to Toronto Hydro CEO Anthony Haines.
Haines said Toronto Hydro is hoping to have the majority of customers back online before the 25th, but said it’s “premature” to say all power will be restored before Christmas.
“We still have no firm estimates,” Haines said at a press conference Monday. “At this point we simply don’t know the work we have ahead of us.”
Toronto Hydro has brought in additional crews to help with everything from repairing downed power lines to cleaning up fallen branches, and are calling on workers from the United States to come in to assist.

Some customers in the hardest hit areas may not have any power until the weekend.
Areas around Hwy. 401 are where Hydro crews have the most work ahead of them, Haines said.
