CALGARY- Looking for a fresh start in the New Year? An Alberta recruitment firm has just released the list of five in-demand occupations in 2014.
Collective Technical Recruitment says ongoing skills and labour shortages, combined with advancements in business and technology will mean an increased need for workers in a number of industries.
“This year we’re going to see a number of recruitment challenges in Alberta,” says Trevor Mahl, senior executive recruiter for Collective Technical Recruitment. “In particular, employers in the oil sands, construction and finance are going to have a tough time finding the right people for the right positions.”
The top five in demand sectors are:
Steam and power engineers
-The most in-demand occupation in the oilsands.
Environmental science jobs
-Environmental careers like soil reclamation technologists will be needed
Construction professionals
-Nearly 900 projects in the works in Alberta worth about $2 billion has increased the need for construction workers.
Management or skilled positions
-it’s predicted that there will be 4.3 million management positions requiring post-secondary education over the next decade.
Finance and insurance professionals
-An estimated 1,000 job openings for auditors, insurance professionals and accountants are forecast for 2014.
