There are so many things I love about this time of year, like the marvelous scent of our Christmas tree as I walk into the house and all the ornaments that take me back through the years like a time machine.
I remember my son’s excitement when he realized the festive Scooby-Doo could sing ‘Ringle Bells,’ and of course there’s the one that marked Baby’s First Christmas, bought for my little girl who is now a bright and confident nine-year-old.
I’m also quickly reminded of how hectic this time of year is, too, and all the pressures that gradually mount as Dec. 25 draws near.
And every year I head into the season with hopes of minimizing the stress, undoubtedly placed on myself. Stress that I am determined to minimize using tips I came across on the Mayo Clinic’s website thanks to Nancy Parker, director of crisis response services for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Here are my top five tips:
- Be realistic
- Stick to a budget
- Plan ahead
- Learn to say ‘no’
- Don’t abandon healthy habits
