Walker, Monteith top Google UK search list in 2013

TORONTO — The death of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker in a fiery car crash on Nov. 30 topped the Google UK Zeitgeist chart in 2013.

Walker was the most-searched person this year, according to Google UK.

Canadian actor Cory Monteith, who died in July of a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol, ranked No. 2 on the list.

The third most-searched person in 2013 was South African runner Oscar Pistorius, who stood accused of killing his girlfriend.

He is followed by the late Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher and Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi.

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson was the seventh most-search person on Google UK, followed by British swimmer Tom Daley, singer Lou Reed and UK star Joey Essex.

According to Google UK, the most-searched celebrity of 2013 was Kim Kardashian.

She is followed by One Direction, Miley Cyrus and Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber.

Cyrus is largely responsible for the year’s most-searched question: “What is twerking?”

On Google Canada, Monteith was the second most-searched person in 2013 followed by Walker.
